Purdue Pharma L.P. is recruiting for a Medical Science Liaison position for the Southeast Territory (DE, MD, VA, WV, MO, KY, TN, NC, SC, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL)

The Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) is a field-based role that reports to the National Director of the Medical Science Liaisons Team. The MSL role is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing relationships with current and future professional contacts primarily in the academic, institutional, and community practice setting. At a minimum, the Company is seeking scientifically trained professionals with strong clinical and/or scientific backgrounds with excellent communication skills. Primary tactical activities for this position include having robust clinical conversations, providing, and delivering clinical presentations, building customer relationships, leading strategic discussions as it relates to key clinical issues/concepts, gathering key insights to enhance department and organizational knowledge. The MSL will engage with a variety of different healthcare professionals across the spectrum of the healthcare system including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and physician assistants in the clinic/practice/institution setting, and with pharmacy departments and formulary committee members. The MSL may also support market access activities within health plans and PBMs. Through these interactions, the MSL will assess changes to and understand emerging pressures on practice environments and appreciate local, regional, and national initiatives relevant to company business. This position will work with the Medical Affairs Team and other internal stakeholders, to execute the overall Medical Science Liaison team objectives and strategy.
This position will provide support to Purdue Pharma and its operating subsidiaries.

This role will primarily support activities within Purdues Public Health Initiatives with the flexibility to support other activities as need arises.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain customer relationships across the various customer segments
  • Clinical, Hospital/Institution, Academic, and Community setting
  • Professional Associations
  • Market Access (as needed)
  • Schedule appointments and meet with key contacts to foster peer-to-peer relationships
  • Identify new Scientific Leaders (SL) or equivalent for customer engagement within each therapeutic area
  • Collect and share insights across the Medical Affairs organization
  • Execute field medical strategies and tactics across the Purdue Portfolio.
  • Work in alignment with other functions including Medical Affairs, Market Access Leadership, Brand Leadership, State Government Affairs, and any additional key internal stakeholders to ensure execution of field medical strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of tools and resources needed for customer engagements.
  • Follow all internal policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Working Practice Documents (WPDs)
  • Complete all compliance requirements in a timely manner
  • Attend and participate in virtual and live team trainings.
  • Execute the national Conference/Association strategic plan for each therapeutic area
  • Identify regional/local meetings of interest in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a presence at major, relevant medical meetings and communicate important information back to the organization.
  • Document all customer interactions in the compliance documentations databases
  • Support Medical Affairs IIR strategy
  • Support post-marketing clinical trials as needed
  • Identify customers who are interested in research, collaboration, ad board participation, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Ability to provide complete, fair and balanced, clinical and evidenced-based information related to Purdue products and therapeutic/risk management programs to clinical and formulary decision makers.
  • Respond to existing products inquiries upon customer request.
  • Maintain clinical and technical expertise in relevant therapeutic areas by reviewing scientific journals and attending select scientific and technical meetings.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Clinical degree preferred (PharmD, RN/NP, PA, Rph)
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a field medical role in the pharma/healthcare industry or comparable experience
  • Appreciation and understanding for the pharmaceutical environment
  • Prior experience in a field MSL role with experience in customer management and engagement in the clinic and hospital/institution setting
  • Disease state knowledge in company therapeutic areas (harm reduction/addiction medicine) is preferred
  • Strong drug information skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate via formal presentation, verbal testimony, or customer dialogue/conversation
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with application of WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, strong personal integrity, teamwork abilities, and a customer focus are necessary.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection, review, and dissemination of medical information.
  • A willingness and ability to travel up to 75% required, dependent on territory.
  • Must live in close proximity to a major airport and have a valid U.S driver's license in good standing.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of US healthcare systems and regulatory and commercial compliance issues relating to the pharmaceutical industry is required.
  • Individuals should have a working knowledge of clinical practice and healthcare systems settings, including a clear understanding of the complexities of the care environment in order to relate to this specialized customer base and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Individuals must possess strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication as well as experience in public speaking and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate via formal presentation, or customer dialogue/conversation
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills are required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Strong analytical comprehension of complex clinical data along with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly to internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task across various interactions and responsibilities (e.g., customer engagements, conference attendance, support of internal projects)
  • Ability to lead and motivate team members without a direct reporting relationship
  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection, review, and dissemination of medical information.
  • The individual must possess a great deal of flexibility, consistent with the nature of the position.
